Personal Branding Photography in Halifax: Creating Images That Feel Like You

Dylan is a career and leadership coach who was getting ready to launch a new website when he reached out to me through a past client. And knowing that they were friends, I had a feeling we were going to get along famously.

Before we ever stepped in front of the camera, we talked a lot about the feeling he wanted his images to have — the mood, the colours, the overall style. He wanted to look professional and polished, but not overly corporate or formal. The images needed to feel like him.

And there was one other detail I definitely wanted to bring into the session: his tattoos. They’re part of his personal style, so why hide them? We worked them into the wardrobe and posing choices rather than treating them as something to cover up.

I helped Dylan plan what to wear and what to bring so that when shoot day arrived, we already had a solid plan. That meant we could spend our time creating a variety of images instead of figuring everything out on the fly.

The result is a bank of images that feels cohesive with his personal brand — professional enough for his website and speaking engagements, but relaxed and approachable enough for social media.

Now he has images ready to go whenever he needs them: on his website, across his social platforms, in marketing materials, and anytime he steps up to speak.

“Rebecca came highly recommended to me when I was looking for someone to do headshots for a website. I am not one who likes to be in front of the camera so the thought of it made me quite uncomfortable. Rebecca completely made the whole process easy. She is warm and friendly and made the process fun and light. I spent about 1.5 hours with her and at no point did my anxiety about having photos done appear. She was amazing at keeping the process light. On top of that, the photos she took were amazing. Again keeping in mind that I hate having my photo taken, she did such amazing work that it was a struggle to come up with the handful of photos I needed because I liked them all. When I need photos again I’ll absolutely be going back to Rebecca. At this point, after this experience, I’d never go anywhere else.”
